Rekawa Wellness Resort

Bespoke Ayurveda Retreats

Table of Contents

Choose the retreat that fits the time you have

Every retreat at Rekawa is built from the same four pillars — yoga, Ayurveda, breathwork and meditation — and every one is delivered by the same team: our in-house Ayurvedic doctor, our yoga teachers, and the Buddhist monks who join us from the local temple.

What changes with length is depth. A single day gives you a genuine reset. Three days lets you learn techniques you can take home. Five gives your body time to respond to treatment. Seven is where most guests find the shift they came for. Ten and fourteen days give the Ayurvedic protocols room to work properly and turn a holiday into a change of habit.

Nothing here is a fixed-date group programme. Retreats run continuously and can begin on any day of the week, so you can build one around your flights rather than the other way round.

What every Rekawa retreat includes

Regardless of length, every guest receives:

  • Two daily yoga sessions, 90 minutes each, at sunrise and sunset, suitable for all levels
  • Meditation and pranayama woven into every practice — cushions, benches and props provided
  • A consultation with our in-house Ayurvedic doctor, who assesses your constitution and prescribes for it
  • Personalised Ayurvedic treatments, delivered daily by our therapists using locally sourced herbs and medicated oils
  • Personalised dietary, lifestyle and self-care guidance you can actually keep going at home
  • Ayurvedic meals prepared to the principles of seasonal eating, with vegetarian and vegan options
  • Accommodation in our ensuite or off-suite rooms, set among the gardens and coastal forest

Longer retreats add teaching, workshops, ceremony and private sessions on top of this foundation. The sections below set out exactly what.

1 Day Pause Retreat

1 day · Any day of the week

A deeply restorative single-day journey designed to rejuvenate the body, calm the mind and restore inner balance. It is the shortest way to experience what Rekawa does — and a natural addition to a stay elsewhere on the south coast.

What’s included

  • Two yoga sessions (90 minutes each), sunrise and sunset, suitable for all levels
  • Meditation and pranayama practices woven into your yoga sessions; meditation cushions, benches and props provided
  • Initial Ayurvedic consultation (45 minutes) with our in-house Ayurvedic doctor for an individual assessment
  • Several personalised Ayurvedic treatments
  • Personalised diet and lifestyle guidance

Best suited to: travellers already staying in or near Tangalle, anyone testing whether a longer retreat is for them, and guests who want one properly restorative day inside a busier Sri Lanka itinerary.

3 Days Journey Retreat

3 days · Starts any day of the week

Three days is enough to stop, and enough to learn. Alongside daily practice and treatment, you leave with technique: a home sequence built for you, and practical tools for stress, breath and emotional balance. Designed for busy lives that need a meaningful introduction to authentic wellness rather than a fixed-date group course.

What’s included — everything in the 1 day retreat, plus:

  • Two daily yoga sessions (90 minutes each), sunrise and sunset
  • Comprehensive meditation instruction covering multiple techniques
  • Initial consultation (60 minutes) with the in-house Ayurvedic doctor, plus shorter consultations throughout your stay
  • Several personalised Ayurvedic treatments daily
  • Yoga alignment, safety principles and foundational philosophy
  • A personalised home practice sequence and integration tools
  • Practical techniques for stress relief, emotional balance, breathing and mental clarity

Best suited to: a long weekend reset, a first genuine retreat, or an add-on to a wider Sri Lanka trip.

5 Days Renewal Retreat

5 days

Five days is the point at which Ayurvedic treatment starts to compound rather than simply relax. The programme is built to nurture healing across body, mind and soul through a blend of yoga, Ayurveda, meditation and breathwork — with each day unfolding with intention, guided by expert instruction and personalised attention.

What’s included — everything in the 3 day retreat, plus:

  • A guided meditation session with a Buddhist monk
  • Daily personalised Ayurvedic treatments tailored for relaxation, detoxification and rejuvenation
  • Ongoing consultations with the Ayurvedic doctor throughout your stay
  • A home practice sequence designed for ongoing personal development
  • Practical tools for integrating yoga, meditation and breathwork principles into daily life

Best suited to: guests who want a real pause from the demands of modern life, and enough time to feel the treatments working rather than just sampling them.

7 Days Transformative Retreat

7 days

A full week is where the balance tips. Seven days allows genuine disconnection from daily life while establishing practice foundations deep enough to survive the return home. This is the length most guests choose, and the first at which the programme opens out into workshops, ceremony and teaching alongside daily practice and treatment.

What’s included — everything in the 5 day retreat, plus:

  • Breathwork integration sessions with sound healing
  • An Ayurvedic cooking class, with recipes to take home
  • A herbal medicine preparation workshop
  • A yoga philosophy session
  • A dedicated breathwork workshop
  • A Dharma talk with a Buddhist monk
  • One ceremonial experience — a cacao ceremony or ecstatic dance
  • A take-home personal practice guide

Best suited to: the guest who wants a complete week away, real teaching rather than just treatment, and something to practise once they’re home.

10 Days Deep Dive Retreat

10 days

Ten days is a journey into lasting transformation. Structured practice, deep healing therapies and complete mind-body alignment combine over a period long enough for the Ayurvedic protocols to run their full course. Expect in-depth training, continuous personal guidance, and the space to reconnect with yourself at a level a shorter stay cannot reach.

What’s included — everything in the 7 day retreat, plus:

  • A workshop on Ayurvedic lifestyle, nutrition and self-care
  • Personalised dietary and lifestyle guidance built for long-term balance
  • An extended course of daily personalised Ayurvedic treatments

Best suited to: anyone wanting to change habits rather than pause them — and guests seeking sustained Ayurvedic treatment rather than a taster.

14 Days Complete Immersion Retreat

14 days

Two weeks provides the time and space for a genuine shift in body, mind and spirit. Intensive instruction, personalised guidance and a restorative healing environment combine to support changes that extend well beyond your stay. It is also the only retreat that includes private one-to-one sessions and recorded content to keep you practising once you’ve left.

What’s included — everything in the 10 day retreat, plus:

  • Education sessions in Ayurvedic theory and practice
  • Two yoga philosophy classes
  • One private 30-minute yoga session with a teacher
  • Two dedicated breathwork workshops
  • One private 30-minute breathwork session with a facilitator
  • Two Dharma talk sessions with a Buddhist monk
  • Two ceremonial experiences — cacao ceremony, ecstatic dance or similar
  • Complimentary recorded wellness content, including yoga, pranayama and guided meditation videos

Best suited to: a complete lifestyle reset, yoga teachers and practitioners deepening their own practice, and anyone with the time to do this properly.

A day at Rekawa

The rhythm is the same whatever length you choose. It is structured, but never rushed.

Sunrise — Yoga on the shala as the light comes up, 90 minutes, with pranayama and meditation woven through. All levels practise together; the teaching adapts to you.

Morning — Ayurvedic breakfast, then your treatments. What you receive depends on what the doctor prescribed after your consultation, not on a standard menu.

Midday — Lunch from the kitchen garden and local farms, prepared to Ayurvedic principles for digestion and energy.

Afternoon — Open. Rest, swim, read, or join a workshop, cooking class or Dharma talk if your programme includes one. Excursions and beach walks are available for those who want them.

Sunset — A second 90-minute practice, typically slower and more restorative than the morning.

Evening — Dinner, herbal teas, and an early night. Most guests sleep better here within two days.

Where you'll stay

Rekawa Wellness Resort sits on Rekawa Road, Tangalle, inside a protected nature reserve on Sri Lanka’s southern coast. The setting is coastal forest and open sky rather than manicured grounds — turtles nest on the beach nearby, and the loudest thing at night is usually the sea.

Accommodation comes in two styles. Ensuite rooms offer complete privacy with modern amenities. Off-suite rooms are quieter on the budget and encourage community between guests. Both use sustainable materials and natural ventilation, and both open directly onto the gardens and common areas.

How to choose

You have a day or two spare. Take the 1 day retreat. It is a genuine treatment day, not a spa visit.

You want to learn something you’ll keep using. Three days is the shortest programme that includes structured teaching and a home practice sequence.

You want your body to actually respond. Five days. Ayurvedic treatment is cumulative; below five days you feel relaxed, at five you start to feel different.

You want the full experience without a fortnight away. Seven days. It is the first programme with workshops, ceremony and monk-led sessions, and the one most guests pick.

You are here to change something. Ten or fourteen days. Fourteen adds private one-to-one sessions and recorded content, and is the right choice for teachers and serious practitioners.

Still unsure? Tell us how long you have and what you’re hoping to shift, and we’ll tell you honestly which programme fits.

Frequently asked questions

Which retreat length should I choose? If you can take a week, take the 7 day retreat — it is the shortest programme that includes workshops, ceremonies and monk-led sessions alongside daily practice and treatment. If you have less time, the 3 day retreat still includes structured teaching and a home practice sequence. For sustained Ayurvedic treatment or a genuine lifestyle change, choose 10 or 14 days.

Do I need previous yoga or meditation experience? No. Every session is taught for mixed levels, and the teaching adapts to what you can do on the day. Many guests arrive having never practised.

When can I start my retreat? Retreats run continuously rather than on fixed group dates, and can begin on any day of the week, so you can build the retreat around your flights.

What’s included in the price? Every retreat includes two daily yoga sessions, meditation and pranayama, a consultation with our in-house Ayurvedic doctor, personalised Ayurvedic treatments, Ayurvedic meals and accommodation. Longer programmes add workshops, ceremonies, monk-led sessions and private sessions. All prices are subject to a 10% service charge.

Are the Ayurvedic treatments personalised? Yes. Every guest has a consultation with our in-house Ayurvedic doctor at the start of their stay, and treatments are prescribed for your individual constitution rather than chosen from a standard menu. On stays of three days or more, the doctor reviews your progress throughout.

Where exactly is Rekawa Wellness Resort? On Rekawa Road, Tangalle, within a protected nature reserve on Sri Lanka’s southern coast, roughly a five-minute walk from the beach where sea turtles nest.

Can I extend or combine retreats? Yes. Retreats can be extended, and treatments can be added to any programme. Tell us what you have in mind when you enquire.

Is this suitable for solo travellers? Most of our guests arrive alone. Shared meals and group practice make it easy to meet people, and off-suite rooms are designed to encourage that; ensuite rooms are there if you would rather keep to yourself.
